Dear IMPRI Well-wishers,

Greetings!

This week, our scholars bring timely reflections on pressing domestic and global issues, from the successes of the National Achievement Survey in Himachal Pradesh and the historic India–UK trade agreement, to the Himalayan region’s escalating flood crisis and the everyday struggles of differently-abled families. We also feature analyses on women in India’s construction sector, the evolving role of women’s governance in rural self-help groups, and new perspectives on mental health discourse and gender neutrality.

Looking ahead, we are excited to share two upcoming autumn school programs. The first, Care Perspectives and Praxis will run across four consecutive Tuesday evenings. This immersive training will explore the ethics and realities of caregiving across diverse contexts, reframing care as both a personal and public policy concern. The second, Data Analytics for Policy Research Fellowship (DAPRF) – Cohort 3, builds on the success of its earlier editions to equip policymakers, researchers, and data experts with advanced analytical skills for evidence-based governance in today’s data-driven world.

We warmly invite you to join these programs and continue engaging with us in advancing research and dialogue on the most urgent challenges of our time.

Stay tuned and scroll below to read our publications on the governance, technology, women and other issues of global significance.

Trump, Tariffs and Trade: A Test of Global Resolve

Trump has announced high tariffs on the entire non-American world and that has virtually created a level playing field for exporters to the US. Countries can stop negotiating with Trump and his bullying bunch of bureaucrats, and the US government would begin to stew in the self-wrought prospect of all imports suddenly turning 20-30 per cent more expensive than before.

Leading with Light:Brahma Kumaris’ Journey of Growth Through Women-Led Conscious Leadership

When I began my research on “Conscious Leadership for Global Impact and Growth: Insights from Women-Led Institution – Brahma Kumaris”, I knew I was stepping into a living laboratory of leadership—one that did not just exist in books or boardrooms, but in meditation rooms, service centers, and quiet moments of personal transformation.
